Michelin 'Driver of The Weekend': Donington Park

Pepe Massot-Ginetta Junior Championship
Spanish 16-year-old Pepe Massot stunned the Ginetta Junior Championship paddock with an outstanding maiden podium in only his fourth ever car race at Donington Park on Sunday (15 April), but as good as the result was the rostrum visit was only half the story.
Innocently caught-up in a multi-car tangle at Coppice during the first of the weekend’s races on Saturday (14 April), the Hillspeed driver didn’t have a chance to avoid team-mate George Gamble’s stricken car over the blind crest…and the resulting impact was massive.
Both Ginetta G40s were a write-off, along with a couple more cars which were also caught-up in the aftermath, and Massot sustained very sore ankles. Following a monumental effort by the Hillspeed team overnight to prepare a spare car for the teenage rookie, he was back on track for Sunday’s race and delivered a sensational performance on his way to second place – also winning the Rookie Cup.
“Saturday was very bad, it was a big accident and my ankles really hurt”, said Massot, “I didn’t know I would be in the second race, the team worked all night until 4am – I had to do something for them, I’m so happy to have my first podium. The team deserves it for their hard work.”
Congratulations Pepe Massot – Michelin Driver of the Weekend for the TOCA Tour’s visit to Donington Park National Circuit.
