Thruxton BTCC Support ‘Michelin Driver of the Weekend’…Charlie Robertson

Untouchable is the only word to describe Charlie Robertson’s level of performance at the appallingly wet Thruxton in Hampshire over the weekend (28/29 April), the 15-year-old HHC Motorsport driver securing his first ever Ginetta Junior race winning double to leap to the top of the championship.

The fastest track on the TOCA Tour is a demanding, challenging and, let’s pull no punches, scary circuit at the best of times but throw in non-stop rainfall mixed with strong winds and you have some of the toughest circumstances imaginable.

Robertson, from Whyteleafe in Surrey, conquered the conditions supremely and after thoroughly dominating qualifying to secure both pole positions, by 0.8 seconds and one second respectively, he was again in a class of his own in the races where the Michelin tyres really had to work hard.

Winning round five of the season on Saturday by an incredible 10 seconds, the rain-lashed sixth round on Sunday produced an amazingly measured performance from the Caterham School pupil as he won by two seconds. Starting the weekend fourth in the standings, having been punted out of the second of the Donington Park races two weeks prior, Robertson now leads for the first time in 2012.

This has been the perfect way to bounce back from the troubles we had at Donington”, he said, “I was praying for rain after qualifying, I knew my wet pace was really good and so rain would be good for us in the races and I think I proved that with two wins out of two, my first ever double on the TOCA package. It’s absolutely fantastic.”

Congratulations Charlie Robertson – Michelin Driver of the Weekend for the TOCA Tour’s visit to Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire.
